Mariah Carey’s 5-year marriage to music mogul Tommy Mottola
famously ended in 1998 and now, a decade later, rumors are persistent that she
may have tied the knot a second time, with MTV star Nick Cannon.
It was only days ago that Mariah Carey showed up at the
Tribeca Film Festival with a massive jewel-encrusted diamond ring on her finger
and rapper Nick Cannon by her side, fueling rumors that they were engaged.
Carey 38, and Cannon, 27, are not just engaged any more, if
we are to listen to even more recent reports, but are in fact Mr. and Mrs. E!
News reports that family member Linda Cannon has confirmed the two are
newlyweds.
“Yes, we know,” she said. “He called us and told us all
about it. We are happy for him. If that is what he wants then we are happy for
him.”
Linda Cannon would not offer further details, such as a
confirmation that the two singers had married at Carey’s new home in the
Thursday, May 1, a representative for jeweler Jacob &
Co. confirmed for E! News that Cannon had spent a whopping $2.5 million for the
17-carat diamond ring the platinum-selling diva was seen sporting serenely
while promoting her new film, “
“It has a square, emerald-cut fancy light-pink diamond as
the center stone that is 10 carats,” the rep said. “It is surrounded by 58 pink
diamonds, with two half-moon diamonds on each side.”
The same source denied the malicious buzz that it was the
same sparkler Cannon had presented to his formerly betrothed,
“Both rings were by Jacob & Co., but this ring for Mariah
was custom made by Jacob... I can say definitively that this is a completely
different ring. They look a little similar, but this [Mariah’s ring] is a
one-of-a-kind piece that Cannon worked with Jacob to create,” the rep said.
While there has been no official confirmation of a changed
marital status from Carey or Cannon,
