An adult entertainment company is set to release a sex tape which reportedly features iconic rock-n-roll guitarist Jimi Hendrix.
According to Los Angeles-based Vivid Entertainment, the 40-year-old video shows the rocker engaging in various sexual acts with to women. The company, which stands behind the release of other famous sex tapes such as Pamela Anderson's and Kim Kardashain, claimed in a statement that they consulted with several experts to confirm the authenticity of the footage.
"I believe that we did our due diligence, and as a result of that clearly believe that it’s him," said Steven Hirsch, Vivid’s co-chairman told the Times. "If they said that it wasn’t him, I would never have put it out."
The 45-minute audio-less tape called "Jimi Hendrix the Sex Tapes," which appears to have been shot in a dimly-lit hotel room and besides the sex scenes, also features a retrospective the guitarist's career and interviews with rock groupies Pamela Des Barres, the author of I'm With the Band: Confessions of a Groupie, and Cynthia "Plaster Caster" Albritton, best known for her plaster casts of the genitals of rock stars, including Hendrix.
"This new movie shows that Jimi Hendrix could have been as great a porn star as he was a rock star," Hirsch added. "He could clearly play more than just his guitar. It's easy to see that he turned women on with his music and his passion."
However, despite the resemblance between Hendrix and the man on the tape, his identity has been widely disputed among fans who watched the tape, and no one can tell for sure if it is indeed Hendrix.
Charles R. Cross, author of the Hendrix biography "Room Full of Mirrors," saw the film and said he doubts it's Hendrix, claiming the face and nostrils of the man depicted in the video don't match Hendrix. He also said the man in the tape is wearing more rings than Hendrix was known to wear.
"This is somebody that looks like Jimi or is pretending to look like him, but it certainly didn't look like a dead-on match to me," Cross said Tuesday.
