Unreal Tournament 3 For Xbox Coming Up This Summer

Unreal Tournament 3 will make its Xbox 360 debut this summer, Epic and Midway confirmed. The first person shooter and online multiplayer shooter is still in works, and specific details are still hard to give at this point.

Mark Rein, Epic Games president, confirmed at the Midway Gamers Day in Las Vegas that they’re working on the best mods for the Xbox 360: “We know some of these great mods are going to play a role on Xbox 360, even if we have to get some people and bring them over ourselves,” he told OXM in an interview. “We’ll figure it out.”

Epic is still in talks with Microsoft about sharing user-generated content, Rein said, and they believe something good will happen, despite Microsoft’s reluctance to it. At the same time, Rein confirmed that user-exchanged mods will probably not be included in the summer release, but the issue will be fixed at a later date.

Unreal Tournament 3 will offer two additional characters exclusively for the Xbox 360, five new maps in addition to the already known content and for the first time ever, split screen capabilities.

The 2008 release of Unreal Tournament 3 on the PS3 got everyone wondering when to expect the Xbox 360 version. There is a lot of talking to do with Microsoft regarding the infamous user generated content it is so strict about, but Rein seemed pretty optimistic in Las Vegas.

Although some speculations have listed the Xbox version's release date as May 2008, we’ll probably have to wait a bit longer than that… Rein said summer, so maybe June? At least that’s how the most optimistic of rumors sounds like.

Eight years after the first Unreal Tournament was released, the UT gaming community still remains active. Unreal Tournament 3 for PC and PS3 already sold over 1 million units worldwide, as Midway unveiled in March.
