Britney Spears Meets “Mother” Again

Britney Spears will strive to repeat the success of her first guest appearance on CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” with another episode, according to media reports.

People.com quotes an unnamed source that alleges both Britney Spears and the show are eager to collaborate once more.

“The show is ecstatic and so is Britney,” the source said. “She had so much fun the first time around she really wanted to come back. It was a mutual decision to work together more.”

The same person added that the struggling singer would appear in one episode. Fox studios (which produces “How I Met Your Mother”) would not confirm the appearance.

Britney’s performance on the March 24 episode of “How I Met Your Mother” was an all-around success, with her receiving praise for her portrayal of the ditsy, flirtatious receptionist at a dermatologist’s office and the show enjoying its highest ratings yet: 10.6 million viewers.

The 26-year-old singer who gained fame as a pop icon in the late 1990s, early 2000s and has recently struggled through a lengthy period of personal turbulence, convinced 1 million additional viewers to tune in for her episode. New episodes which started airing last month following the writers strike had 9.6 million viewers the week before her appearance and 9.5 million the week after.

Her four minutes on the small screen charmed the show’s producers, with executive producer Carter Bays recently telling E!Online that they’d love to have Britney reprise her role. “The door is open,” Bays said, adding that the way in which her character Abby would return might be connected to her final scene in the first episode she made, during which Abby hooked up with Neil Patrick Harris’ character, Barney.

Interestingly enough, Harris told the Associated Press in an interview earlier this month that Britney’s collaboration was merely a case of stunt casting that he feared could compromise the show’s integrity. He later clarified his statement, saying that he would like the singer back on the series.

A wish come true.
