Boulder police arrested three female students at Nevin Platt Middle School Thursday after receiving a complaint on April 4 from school officials that said a student brought two prescription drugs to school to exchange with another student for alcohol.

According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, one of the girls brought two types of prescription drugs - Strattera and Concerta - both used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to trade for alcohol with another student.

The girl supposed to deliver the alcohol offered a Strattera pill to a third girl, who went home sick from school after taking the drug, and then asked a fourth girl to hold the rest of the pills until the end of the day.

The girl keeping the pills unveiled the entire story to school officials, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said, according to the Denver Post.

None of the students' names were given, but they all were either 14 or 15, officials said.

Two of the students were charged with distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a schedule II substance and unlawful acts. The third student was charged with possession of a schedule II substance and unlawful acts. Possession and distribution of a schedule II substance is a felony, according to authorities.

The girl who took the Strattera pill was taken to the emergency room by her grandparents and was later released, according to deputies. She was issued a juvenile referral for unlawful acts, a misdemeanor.

School Principal Alice Lindemann did not comment on the case.
