Mischa Barton Gets Probation in DUI Case
Mischa Barton was sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation Thursday in her DUI case, after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors that spared her from seeing the inside of a jail cell.

Mischa Barton pleaded no contest to drunken driving in a plea deal reached with prosecutors earlier this month. The 22-year-old former “O. C.” star thus avoided serving time in jail. Such plea deals are common for first-time offenders.

One charge of marijuana possession against the actress was dropped, due to the small amount found, while another charge of driving without a license was reduced to an infraction, reports People.com.

Barton did not attend the hearing Thursday. Her attorney, Anthony V. Salerno, was there on her behalf and said outside of the Beverly Hills, Calif., courthouse that the actress was pleased with the outcome.

“The DAs were very fair in handling this case. Mischa’s glad the case has been resolved,” Salerno said.

Along with the three years of unsupervised probation, Barton was also ordered to complete a three-month alcohol-education class and pay a fine of approximately $2,000.

She was arrested in December for driving under influence and charged in late February with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher, driving without a valid license and possession of 28.5 grams or less of marijuana.

A statement released by the District Attorney’s office at the time of her charging, said that Barton was taking full responsibility for any mistakes in judgment that she may have made.

Salerno said in a statement released after the hearing: “Ms. Barton understands the seriousness of this situation and assumes full responsibility for her actions. She and I are grateful to the Court and the District Attorney’s Office for the prompt and respectful resolution of the case.”
