Carrie Underwood and Chace Crawford both agreed that their
relationship had run its course and that it was time to move on by texting each
other their mutual good-byes.
The country star and the “Gossip Girl” actor dated for a
while and insisted on being discreet about their relationship. Carrie told
Extra during the taping of “Idol Gives Back” that their break-up had been peaceful.
“It was completely mutual. We broke up over text so ... it’s
like 'peace out.'”
Carrie also explained that she and Chace had ended their
romance when they both realized that the relationship would not hold. The two
had been dating since the summer of 2007.
“It just didn't work,” she said. “We both knew it didn't
work and [had] no hard feelings at all whatsoever.”
Carrie also attempted diplomacy, by refusing to say anything
negative about her former boyfriend. “I don't dislike him, so it's no big deal.”
She did confess that being famous and having the media care
about her personal life put pressure on the relationship. “It's difficult while
you're dating because people always make a lot bigger deal of things than they
actually are,” she told Extra.
“Then when you break up with somebody and then like two
months later it comes out and it's like you're rehashing old stuff. I don't
know what that's all out now.”
While the “Before He Cheats” singer kept her cool, Chace’s
sister Candice revealed to People that the actor was going through a
hard time. “He was upset about the breakup. It's always hard when you lose a
relationship.”
“Chace will get through it,” she added. “We love Carrie, too. They're dolls and they'll both do well.”
