Xbox 360 Wii-Like Controller Reportedly In The Making

Nintendo Wii has one, Sony PS3 has one, Microsoft wants one for Xbox 360 and will have one by the end of the year… and the mysterious object we’re talking about is a motion-controller remote. Microsoft didn’t make an official announcement yet, but according to MTV News, an anonymous source gave in some exclusive details on the 360 controller, and apparently, other sources confirmed Microsoft’s plans too.

So, what will the 360 controller look like and what will it do? The project has been under development since August, the source said, and will be able to do all the Wii remote does and a little extra. The difference between the two will be that Microsoft’s release won’t have the companion controller to be placed in the other hand like Wii.

As it has been reported, the 360 controller will be much like Nintendo’s Wii remote, and will also have four face buttons, an analog stick, and microphone and will probably be able to interact with the Xbox Live Vision Camera. Such an ambitious project is not an easy task for Microsoft.

“The whole thing is a colossal clusterf --,” the source said. “[Microsoft] marketing just want it so they can match the Wii point for point. The biggest parts of their marketing materials outline how easy it would be for third parties to port their Wii games to the 360,” the source told MTV News.

Microsoft did not wish to comment on the speculations, but several developers confirmed that a 360 controller is indeed in project. Two years ago, Bill Gates told MTV News that a remote controller “it’s not something that’s mainstream for most games.” As it appears, they’ve reconsidered that matter, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
