The new feature added by the company, called YouTube Insight, will provide users with an increased control over the videos they upload. The popularity of online media will be quantified both over periods of time and geographically. The information will be made very easy to read and interpret, as it will come in the form of a color-coded map and a graph; the two are accessible through a link found on the account page of the video creator.
“For example, uploaders can see how often their videos are viewed in different geographic regions, as well as how popular they are relative to all videos in that market over a given period of time. You can also delve deeper into the lifecycle of your videos, like how long it takes for a video to become popular, and what happens to video views as popularity peaks” explained the YouTube Team in a post on their official blog.
Until now, video creators were given some information regarding the viewers, but that was rather basic, as it covered the number of comments and average viewer ratings. The great thing YouTube Insight does is that it lets video creators know when their material was watched and where exactly it was watched from.
This also seems to be a very appealing feature for advertisers, as they will be able to get an immediate feedback on their online campaigns.
As for now, one could find currently available metrics by clicking under the "About this Video" button under "My account > Videos, Favorites, Playlists > Manage my Videos."
