Marsha Garces Williams, Robin Williams’ wife, has filed for
divorce after almost 20 years of marriage, the actor’s rep, Mara Buxbaum, told People
magazine.
Marsha Williams filed for divorce from the famous comedian
on March 21, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the break-up.
Robin Williams met Garces while she was working as a nanny for
Zachary, Williams’ son with his previous wife, Valerie Valardi.
Before starting a romance with the actor, Marsha Garces
became Williams’ personal assistant. They worked together as a couple, founding
Blue Wolf Productions. Garces was the producer of “Mrs.Doubtfire” and “Patch
Adams.”
The two got married in April 1989, shortly after the comedian
divorced from Valardi. They have two children together: a daughter, Zelda, who
is 18, and a son Cody, who is 16 years old.
According to the court filing, Garces requested that her son
with Williams, Cody, lived with her and Williams got the right to visit him.
She also called for payment of attorney fees and spousal support.
Williams’ rep had no further comment, after confirming the
couple’s divorce.
Robin Williams, 56, won an Academy Award for Best Supporting
Actor, following his performance in “Good Will Hunting.” He also won Golden
Globe awards for his roles in the films “Good Morning, Vietnam” (1987), “The
Fisher King” (1991) and “Mrs. Doubtfire” (1993).
