Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Stephen Sambora was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. In his car there were also his girlfriend and his 10-year-old daughter Ava, so the lead guitarist could face criminal charges, police sources said.

Initial police reports said Sambora hasn’t been charged with endangerment, but the Laguna Beach P.D. is still investigating.

There were four passengers in Sambora’s vehicle: his girlfriend, his daughter Ava and another juvenile.

Police sources said that after Sambora was pulled over, the cops called Heather Locklear, Ava's mom, who allegedly agreed the woman who was in the car to drive Ava home.

The 48-year-old rock guitarist was pulled over at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. The sergeant, who pulled him over, Laguna Beach police Sgt. Jason Kravetz, said he saw the black Hummer not following the traffic lanes. He gave Sambora a field sobriety test and then put him under arrest. He was very cooperative, the report said.

"He smelled of alcohol," Kravetz told reporters.

Sambora was booked at the Laguna Beach jail and released at 4 a.m., said Kravetz Wednesday. His appearance in court for the arraignment was scheduled for May 7 one misdemeanor count of DUI.

"At this point there's no indication of drugs," Kravetz told TMZ.com.

Sambora is still in therapy after he entered a treatment facility last year. He confessed that he was drinking too much and wanted to get his life together and that’s why he chose to enter the facility.

"I'm still in therapy and stuff like that, but it's good. I'm great. I feel fine," said the guitarist during a Today show appearance.

His drinking problem came after he broke up with actress Denise Richards after they had dated for about a year. During the same month his divorce from Locklear was finalized and his father died. There’s no doubt that Sambora had a rough April.

Richie Sambora, a founding member of Bon Jovi, forms the primary songwriting unit of the band. The lead guitarist also has a solo career and released two solo albums; Stranger in This Town in 1991, and Undiscovered Soul in 1998.
