Online Privacy - An Oxymoron?
Security settings are not and will never be perfect and people are quite aware of that and still, more and more private material, which is potentially dangerous or to say the least, embarrassing, is being uploaded and posted on a multitude of websites.

Countless libraries of private photographs uploaded on Facebook were recently made public due to a security lapse; among the many people affected by this problem we also have Paris Hilton.

Photos of the young socialite enjoying herself at a party after the recent Emmy awards, while accompanied by her brother, which were not intended for wide scale exhibition, found themselves “out in the open” for a short period of time.

Facebook was informed about the problem this week and declared that everything has been taken care of.

A computer technician from Vancouver, Byron Ng, began looking for flaws in Facebook’s security, after the site’s spokespeople announced the launch of a security upgrade last week.

The upgrade was supposed to provide the 40 million users of the site with a better control of their personal page’s management. As it turns out, Mr. Ng discovered he was able to view photos which were not intended for public access.

Moreover, Associated Press managed to gain access to several private albums, out of which some were posted by Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, in November 2005.

"We take privacy very seriously and continue to make enhancements to the site” a Facebook spokesman declared, according to Times Online.
