A 45-year-old woman suspected in four bank robberies in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa
Beach surrendered to police Saturday.
Felicia Ellen Jones had earned the name “Weather girl bandit”
for chatting with the bank tellers about the weather, while robbing the bank. The
woman was involved in three bank robberies in Manhattan
Beach on February 29, March 11 and March 12, and one robbery in Hermosa Beach on March 5.
As the woman was caught on surveillance cameras while
robbing the banks, police asked people who saw her to help them find her.
"Pretty clear pictures, wearing a white shirt, pink
skirt, pink hat, and definitely, if somebody looks at this photo and knows who
this person is, we're asking that they come forward," the announcement
said.
Authorities received clues on the robber’s whereabouts after
the photos taken by the bank surveillance cameras were shown on television. They
verified the information source and negotiated with Jones, convincing her to meet
them at a certain location in Los
Angeles, accompanied by her attorney.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said that Jones was very
polite during the robberies, asking a teller about her nail polish and
apologizing for committing the robbery in some of the situations.
"It was very friendly and polite conversation, but
again, her notes were demanding cash," Eimiller said, according to the Los
Angeles Times.
Jones is expected to appear in federal court on Monday to
face charges of bank robbery.
