Disney Turns To Digital Productions With Stage 9

Walt Disney Co. decided to officially launch Stage 9 Digital Media, a new digital production unit that will exclusively be in charge of online video developing. In a world of digital transition, Disney did what everybody else seems to be doing, and adjust to the digital transition and the demands of the young generation.

The company has been working on Stage 9 for some time now, wanting to make quite an entrance on the released date. Today’s launch will feature their first online show, “Squeegees”,   a comedy series to be shown on both ABC.com and YouTube.

From now on, it will be just a matter of time before the audience will decide whether they will like the new format, produced at pre-established periods of time. The show will feature four window washers that run an incredibly goofy “business”, and the action takes place outside an office building.

The funny thing about Disney, or should we say, Stage 6’s creation is the fact that the four actors starring in the new online series are actually very familiar with online shows and have gained quite a fame (they are also known as Handsome Donkey).

"An integral part of our overall digital strategy, Stage 9 was created to bridge the gap between user-generated content and traditional production, and is a perfect example of how we are continually looking at innovative methods to develop, produce, market and distribute the high-quality programming that consumers demand," said Anne Sweeney, co-chair, Disney Media Networks, and president, Disney-ABC Television Group, in a statement.

"By partnering with extremely talented creative individuals and producing in a variety of genres, Stage 9 has the ability and positioning to put experimental new media content on the map," she also added. As it seems, Disney wants to capture all audiences, whether they remained loyal to the classic or new.
