Three More Added To Scorsese’s Movie

The latest Martin Scorsese’s collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio, “Shutter Island” will include Max von Sydow, Emily Mortimer and Jackie Earle Haley.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the production will begin next week on March 6 and the three will join Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams and Patricia Clarkson in the mystery drama “Shutter Island,” an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's 2004 novel made by Laeta Kalogridis.

The action takes place in 1954 when two U.S. marshals (DiCaprio and Ruffalo) go to a Massachusetts island to investigate the disappearance of a patient who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and who murdered several people.

She is thought to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island. The two find themselves trapped on the island in a network of deceit and in the middle of the hurricane.

Von Sydow is set to play one of the hospital's physicians. Mortimer will play a patient who escaped from the hospital while Haley will play an inmate.

Phoenix Pictures, Scorsese's Sikelia Prods. and DiCaprio's Appian Way are producing the picture while Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and Scorsese are joining in as producers.

The executive producers are Kalogridis, Lehane and Louis Phillips.

The project was sold by Paramount Vantage to some European territories like Germany (TeleMunchen) and Italy (Medusa).

TeleMunchen gathered $12 million for German distribution, while Medusa picked up $10 million. Manga, distributor in Spain, scooped around $ 6 million-$ 8 million for distribution.

Von Sydow recently appeared in the acclaimed "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" and has just finished “Heidi”, a Warner Bros. production.

Mortimer will appear in "Redbelt" and "The Pink Panther 2," while Haley playes in the action thriller "Watchmen," as Walter Kovacs.
