Jamie Spears, dad-come-to-the-rescue of troubled pop singer Britney Spears, is cleaning up her entourage: her manager has been fired for allegedly breaking court orders and going against his wishes in what regards Britney’s wellbeing.
Jamie Spears fired his daughter’s manager, Howard Grossman, after a court agreed that Grossman failed to follow directions established by Britney’s co-conservators and to turn over requested documents, according to court papers released Monday.
Jamie Spears is to remain temporary co-conservator of Britney Spears’ estate through Feb. 14, when a court hearing has been scheduled. Until then, Spears senior has control over Brit’s finances and he can also take certain decisions regarding his daughter’s wellbeing.
His lawyers filed a motion last week, People.com reports, alleging that Grossman did not cooperate with the co-conservators, Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet, and violated court orders.
“The temporary co-conservators believe that they cannot trust Mr. Grossman to follow instruction,” says the motion.
Grossman is accused of having arranged meetings for the pop star upon her release from UCLA Medical Center on Wednesday, against her parents’ wishes. He also allegedly provided Britney with a car, although it is the co-conservators who control her assets.
Court Commissioner Reva Goetz granted Spears the right to fire Grossman during a closed-door hearing last week.
Grossman’s actions have a possible explanation, offered by Spears’ lawyer, Jeryll Cohen. “He wanted to comply with her request because he wanted to ‘build her confidence in him’,” Cohen said.
The manager is also accused of having refused to hand over e-mails from Sam Lutfi, Britney’s self-declared friend and manager.
Lutfi is another member of the 26-year-old’s entourage that papa Spears has taken care of. A restraining order has been put in place at the request of papa Spears, to prevent Lutfi from contacting the singer.
Lynne Spears’ shocking allegations against Lutfi were made public last week and portray him as a manipulative and unscrupulous man who attempted to control the singer by drugging her, being verbally and emotionally abusive and isolating her from the outside world.
Britney was released last week, earlier than expected, after it was ruled that she was not a danger to herself or others. Jamie and Lynne Spears said in a joint statement they believe Britney’s life is “presently at risk.”
Grossman has not commented yet on whether or not he’s been fired.
