‘Lipstick Jungle’ Another ‘Sex and the City’ Copycat?
NBC’s new series “Lipstick Jungle,” premiering tonight at 10, about one of New York’s finest female trio, might be trying a little too hard to recreate the atmosphere HBO’s “Sex and the City” once got us used to.

Following last month’s debut of ABC’s “Cashmere Mafia” from “Sex and the City” creator, Darren Star, NBC presents its viewers with “Lipstick Jungle,” from “Sex and the City” author, Candace Bushnell, based on a novel with the same name.

Focusing on three, rich, fashionable career women, trying to successfully mix their professional and personal lives, “Lipstick Jungle” has the same premise, character types, plot points and fetishes as “Cashmere Mafia,” both series resembling “Sex and the City.”

While the new series tend to lack Carrie and company’s humorous approach, “Lipstick Jungle” starring Brooke Shields, Kim  Raver and Lindsay Price, treats its viewers with  NYC’s characteristic fashion and obnoxious lifestyle.

In an interview with AOL, Brooke Shields, whose character, Wendy Healy, is a movie executive, said of the series that “It's the reality of putting on different hats. Going into that meeting and then when that meeting is over, you're BlackBerry-ing your nanny to make sure your kids get to school and to their play dates. And then you're running off to another meeting to make sure Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't go off and make that other film. It's about these characters multi-tasking, but in a realistic way.”

Working in the same media empire is Nico Reilly (played by “24’s”Kim Raver), editor in chief of a hot fashion magazine. She is a frustrated wife, with a scheming male rival and a nasty male boss, who all put her under so much pressure she barely finds time to have an affair with a hot young photographer's assistant.

“Lipstick's” third is Victory (Lindsay Price), a fashion designer who's just launching into a career downfall as the series begins, leaving her with a pile of withering reviews and no self-esteem. But at least she gets to be romanced by Joe Bennett, the Mr. Big-type beau love interest played by Andrew McCarthy.
