A Maryland judge ordered rapper DMX to pay $1.5 million over a series of comments he made regarding the mother of his illegitimate son.
Baltimore-based Monique Wayne, 28, sued DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, in Prince George’s County Circuit Court for defamation of character. The lawsuit, which was filed in October 2006, was seeking $6 million in damages over a Sister2Sister interview in which DMX claimed she raped him while he slept during a 2003 hotel encounter and ended up pregnant as a result.
"She raped me," the rapper reportedly said in the article. "DNA says it is (my child). I don’t know. If I did (have sex with her) I would remember. It ain’t like she’s a pretty girl."
Simmons will have to pay Wayne $518,400 in compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive penalties, according to Wayne's lawyer, Stephanie Moran.
"It's not so much the price, it's the point I wanted to get across," Wayne was quoted by the New York Post as saying. "Let him think about what he's going to say before he says it."
Wayne said she'd try to reach out to DMX about raising their love child, but didn't count on receiving much support from Simmons.
"I'm a single parent, as far as I'm concerned," Wayne said.
