This Monday, the principal at a Chicago elementary school died during a root canal surgery at an East Lakeview neighborhood dentist’s office.
Georgette Watson, of Skokie, was the principal at the Brentano Math and Science Academy, since 2003. This news was especially tough for students and staffers at Brentano, at 2723 N. Fairfield Ave., in the Logan Square neighborhood.
Monday morning, Georgette Watson, 46, was under dental surgery, when apparently she suffered a heart attack. There isn’t information if she was given a local or a general anesthetic. The dentists tried to revive her before paramedics arrived. Less than an hour after she was unresponsive in the dental chair at the offices of Feldman & Feldman DDS, at 3423 N. Broadway, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office pronounced her death.
CBS 2 hasn’t revealed the names of the doctors who were conducting the surgery, but it has found out that the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has placed the two dentists at the Feldman & Feldman DDS, Lawrence W. and Joseph David Feldman, on probation.
The probation period is until September 30, 2009 and both dentists have previously been disciplined in the past for unspecified reasons.
The probation reasons are specified on the Illinois Department web site as “substandard dental work and failure to maintain records”.
