Actor Brandon Routh married longtime girlfriend Courtney Ford Saturday in Santa Barbara, People magazine reports.
The Man of Steel and his fiancée welcomed family and friends at the El Capitan Ranch in Santa Barbara, where they said their I Dos. People.com reports that the bride and groom dressed up for the occasion in a Junko Yoshioka sheath dress and cashmere suit by Looysen Fine Clothing, respectively.
Routh, who rose to fame with his portrayal of Superman in the 2006 Warner Bros. film “Superman Returns,” proposed to Ford last summer, in Glastonbury, England, in the midst of the film’s press tour. They kept the engagement a secret until the actor finished promoting the film.
The two met four years ago, when Routh, 28, worked at the Lucky Strike bowling alley in Hollywood, as a bartender, and Ford, 29, was there for her brother’s wedding rehearsal.
“He met my whole family the day he met me,” Ford told People earlier this year.
Routh’s embodiment of the Man of Steel, a character generally associated with Christopher Reeve, received positive reviews. The film was a box office success, grossing $200 million in the US.
His Lois Lane was portrayed by Kate Bosworth, while Kevin Spacey played the villainous Lex Luthor. The movie was directed by Bryan Singer. A sequel titled “Superman: The Man of Steel,” is scheduled to start shooting next year, with a release tentatively set for 2009. Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth and director Bryan Singer are also reportedly attached.
Prior to his big-screen success as a superhero, Routh appeared on several television series, including “Gilmore Girls,” “General Hospital,” “Will & Grace” and “Cold Case.”
He will apparently not star in Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Justice League” movie, nor will Christian Bale reprise his role as Batman. As of September, Variety had announced that actress Jessica Biel was in talks to play Super Woman. She is just one of the super heroes expected to be featured in the movie: Superman, Batman, the Flash and Aquaman.
