Putin Attacks Western Governments

On Wednesday President Vladimir Putin attacked his opponents and accused the West of interfering in Russia politics.

He said that foreign governments are sponsoring his opponents in the election due next month in order to make Russia weak.

Putin told the crowd gathered in a Moscow sports stadium: "Unfortunately there are still those people in our country who still slink through foreign embassies ... who count on the support of foreign funds and governments but not the support of their own people,"

He said regarding the political enemies: "They need a weak and feeble state. They need a disorganized and disoriented society, a split society, so that they can carry out their dirty tricks behind its back," Reuters reports.

Putin attacked his critics ahead of the December 2 election to the State Duma (lower house of parliament). This was one of the hardest attacks over his opponents.

The crowd was made out of 5,000 people who waved flags and banners and chanted soviet-era songs, supporting the 55-year-old leader, the most popular Russian politician after eight years of strong economic growth.

President’s name was etched across some young women faces and a huge poster said “Victory for Putin is victory for Russia!”

"For Putin" movement organized the rally in order to persuade Kremlin chief to remain as national leader after the end of his second term. The second term comes to an end this year and the constitution doesn’t allow for a consecutive term.

He didn’t reveal any of his plans at the rally. He said that the government will suffer changes in the next months when parliamentary and then, presidential vote, will take place.

Putin said: "Friends, in the elections on December 2, the fate of the country will in a significant way be decided. Make sure you come and vote for United Russia."

The list of candidates of the main pro-Kremlin party is lead by Putin in the election to the Duma.

According to opinion polls, United Russia will be backed by 60 % of the voters.
