Dr. Adams Abruptly Interrupts "Larry King Live"
The Beverly Hills plastic surgeon that operated on rapper Kanye West’s mother one day before she died appeared Tuesday on Larry King’s CNN talk show only to walk out within minutes.

Dr. Jan Adams said Tuesday that he had initially agreed to appear on Larry King’s talk show only to clear up what he considers to be inaccurate reports about him in the media, concerning the death of Donda West, mother of rapper Kanye West. He said that as West’s family contacted him and asked him not to appear on the show, he would no longer discuss the situation with King.

“I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for the West family and they have asked me not to go on,” he said. “And I've said from the very beginning, I don't have a side in this. They are my side and so I'm going to respect their wishes.”

As Adams got up from his chair to shake King’s hand, the talk show host asked him whether he would ever answer questions regarding Donda West’s death.

“When they're comfortable, then I'll be comfortable. If they're never comfortable, then I'll never be comfortable,” Adams said, referring to West's family. “They are what's important to me. I said that from the start and that's what I'll continue to honor.”

Donda West, a retired professor and former chairwoman of the Chicago State University English department, and onetime manager of son Kanye West, passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, one day after undergoing a medical procedure performed by Adams.

She was laid to rest Tuesday in Spencer, Oklahoma, just hours before Adams appeared on the “Larry King Live” show.

While Adams initially stated he would not divulge any details regarding Donda West’s surgery because he “holds sacred the bond of confidentiality that exists between the patient and doctor,” he eventually confirmed that he had performed abdominoplasty (commonly known as the tummy tuck), breast reduction and liposuction on the 58-year-old West.

He told the Los Angeles Times in an interview Monday, Nov. 20, that the procedure went well and that she was fine when she left his office. He said she likely died because of a heart attack, pulmonary embolism or accidental overdose of drugs prescribed to her for pain after the procedure. He had prescribed Vicodin to help West bear the pain that would follow after the procedure, he said. “I believe I know exactly what happened to her, but I will not comment on it until I see the final report,” he told the newspaper.

An autopsy was performed last week but deemed inconclusive pending the results of toxicology tests, which will be available in several weeks, the Los Angeles County Coroner said. The coroner’s initial evaluation of the case was that Donda West died due to “complications from surgery.”

Adams has been revealed to have a checkered past, which includes multiple DUI arrests and malpractice suits. CNN reported last week that the Medical Board of California was seeking to suspend or revoke Adams' license because of “multiple convictions for alcohol-related offenses” and malpractice cases.
