NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg will join the cast of the upcoming “Sex and the City” film, in his efforts to support the new York film scene.
Michael Bloomberg shot his cameo as himself for the film in Bryant Park earlier this week, at what appeared to be a tented fashion show, according to Variety.
Mayoral spokesman Stu Loeser said: “We believe strongly in supporting the New York film scene” and added that Mayor Bloomberg’s role in “Sex and the City” was part of that support, the trade paper reports.
The mayor has been on set before, appearing on “Law & Order” twice and in various documentaries. Variety notes that the administration tries to encourage filmmakers to bring their projects to New York by way of the Mayor's Office of Film, Television and Broadcasting.
Filming has been going on for several weeks now, with the four sexy ladies that made the HBO comedy series a hit, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon, reunited once more.
Academy Award winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson has also joined the cast, playing personal assistant to the film’s main character, sex columnist/fashionista Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker.
Actor Chris Noth, who played Mr. Big in the series, also returned, to the delight of many fans who are still hoping for him and Carrie to settle down. Other love interests from the television series are said to resurface in the movie. Samantha and Miranda’s significant others from the show, Jason Lewis (Smith Jerrod) and David Eigenberg (Steve Brady), are said to appear alongside their ladies.
Michael Patrick King, who knows the story inside out as he executive produced the show for years, is directing after a script he penned. The film is produced by King with Parker, John Melfi and Darren Star, creator of the series.
Mayor Bloomberg follows in the steps of one of his predecessor, as former New York Mayor Ed Koch appeared in a “Sex and the City” episode in 2001 as himself.
