After a pause of more than four
years the famous and beautiful actress Michelle Pfeiffer has returned in 2007
with three movies. “Hairspray” is vivid movie, as it represents the film
adaptation of the famous Broadway musical, “I Could Never Be Your Woman” is a
romantic comedy, while “Stardust” is a fairy tale movie for adults. And
Michelle Pfeiffer has proved once again what a talented actress she is, as she
stars in all these three different-style movies.
However, “Stardust” seems to be
offer the famous actress the most delicious character, that of Lamia, a wicked witch that
is hunting a beautiful fallen star called Yvaine, played by Claire Danes.
As Ivaine has once been a star,
she has magical abilities and that is why Lamia
and another bunch of characters are trying to get her. The witch would like to
kill her and eat her heart for gaining eternal youth and beauty, some king’s
sons would want her power for ascending to the Stormhold’s throne and Tristan,
played by Charlie Cox, would like Yvaine only for himself.
So Claire Danes plays a character
in a continual run, with all the others chasing her like a hunted deer. While
watching this fairy tale movie you won’t know whom to like and whom to dislike,
as Michelle Pfeiffer is evil, but she is extraordinary in her role at the same
time. She is able to make Lamia
morph from wretched to ravishing, so that you could remember that evil is sometimes
very attractive.
Based on Neil Gaiman same title
novel, “Stardust” has more than enough imagination. The vivid makeup and the
special effects are quite good and the cast includes other important actors
such as Peter O’Toole or Sienna Miller.
“Stardust” could be compared to
Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece “Pan’s Labyrinth” for its way of wrapping
sense and serious things in a fairy tale.
