Nas will be joined by the Dave Matthews Band, Phil Vassar and John Mayer for headlining the “Concert for Virginia Tech”. However, although the University’s President Charles Steger has stated that the university’s staff is “extremely grateful for the compassion and generosity of these artists who wished to create a very special event”, some of the students’ parents have expressed their disapprobation for adding Nas among the performers of the concert.
The murdered students’ parents,
especially, are angry that Nas has been included in the concert, because the
rapper has released songs such as “Shoot ‘Em Up”. The song from Nas’ 1999 album
titled “Nastradamus” features lyrics like “Shoot 'em up,
just shoot 'em up, what?", which are followed by "Kill, kill, kill,
murder, murder, murder." However, although the parents are angry, the
university’s officials have said that they have received only positive
responses since they have announced the concert’s performers.
All the students enrolled for the fall semester and all Virginia Tech faculty and staff will be eligible for getting a ticket at the free concert in the memory of the tragic April event.
