Sprint To Collaborate With Google In Developing A Mobile Portal
Sprint Nextel Corp. has announced it is to collaborate with Google Inc. in developing a new mobile Internet portal, which will be using the telecom’s WiMAX wireless technology.

Sprint Nextel Corp. is to partner with Google Inc. by using some of the company’s known products, such as its famous and powerful applications Google Talk instant-messaging, Gmail email and Google search engine and more.

The two companies have announced also their developing new location-based services for corporations, consumers and government customers too. WiMAX will be tested in Baltimore, Chicago and Washington and Sprint Nextel Corp. is hoping to be covering about 100 million users by the end of the year to come, as its service is expected to launch by spring.

"Google shares Sprint’s vision for enhancing the consumer’s mobile lifestyle and is focused on greater access to information through a variety of channels," said Dave Girouard, vice president and general manager Google Enterprise. "We look forward to working with Sprint to bring to market a rich and compelling broadband experience for WiMAX customers."

Google Inc. itself has plans for becoming a wireless-service provider, as the company has announced the Federal Communications Commission its intention of spending to enter a bid for the upcoming auction for the 700-megahertz-band spectrum. Maybe this partnership with Sprint Nextel Corp. will be a way of understanding even better the wireless industry and Google Inc. will have even more to gain in the business. The financial terms involved in the agreement between Google and Sprint haven’t been disclosed.

Sprint has recently also announced a 20-year agreement with Clearwire Corp. for building a WiMAX network all across the United States, which is expected to eventually providing coverage to about 300 million users.
