Rapper Arrested For Attempted Murder In New York
Grammy nominated rapper Remy Ma was arrested on charges of attempted murder on Sunday after she reportedly shot a woman in a popular nightlife neighborhood near Greenwich Village.

Te 26-year-old US artist, whose real name is Remy Smith, turned herself in yesterday for allegedly shooting her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph twice in the abdomen at close range on Friday night, Daily News reported.

Apparently, police were alerted to an emergency call in New York’s Meatpacking district that lead to a woman who had suffered gunshot wounds. The 23-year-old victim was taken to the hospital and her condition is currently stable.

"All I heard was the gun go off," Barnes-Joseph said from her hospital bed at St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan. "I couldn't believe she shot me!"

Remy Ma’s car which appeared to have been involved in a car crash was found abandoned three streets away.

The rapper together with her lawyer reported to police for questioning. Besides the attempted murder charges she pleaded not guilty of, Remy Ma was also charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court and granted bail of $250,000.

The rapper’s manager said yesterday that she could not talk and referred calls to Remy Ma’s lawyer.

"I ask everyone to keep an open mind," attorney Scott Leemon said. "Things are not always as they seem."

According to reports, the incident was caused by missing money. Remy Ma was out partying at a friend's birthday with Barnes-Joseph, when she noticed cash missing from her wallet. Cops believe the rapper blamed Barnes-Joseph for the missing sum and shot her.

The manager, who identified himself as Big Joe of New Era Management, defended the Bronx bad girl. "I don't see her as the kind of person who would shoot someone," he said. "Remy doesn't carry a gun."
